Introduction Phase


We start our lesson by presenting a poster of the water cycle and having a discussion with the children on what is happening in the pictures. We then sing a song about the water cycle, "Oh, The Rain Is Falling On the Rooftops, Pitter Patter On The Ground...".


Teaching and Learning Phase


The teacher will boil a kettle of water for the learners to observe the steam rising from the kettle. The teacher then places a plate over the kettle and shows the learners the water droplets. Open ended questions are asked to the learners about their understanding of what is happening with the water.


Concluding Phase


Learners go outside and paint the floor with water using paintbrushes and learners observe evaporation taking place as their picture fades away.

Real life object used to demonstrate how heat makes water rise.



Song used to explain the water cycle in a fun way for learning purposes, which is age appropriate.

Oh, the rain is falling on the rooftops
Pitter patter on the ground.
Oh, the rain is splashing into puddles,
That's my favourite sound!
Splish splash splosh! Oh my gosh!
It's raining again how wonderful!
Splish splash splosh, put on your galoshes,
Your umbrella and your mackintosh.
When the sun starts shining,
The sun makes everything dry.
It sucks up all the water
and takes it into the sky.
The clouds form once more,
They grow and grow and grow.
They get too big to stay there
and what happens do you know?
